What is a cleanroom?

A cleanroom is a facility that is part of specialized industrial production or scientific research, including the manufacture or compounding of pharmaceutical items, integrated circuits and LCD/micro LED displays. Cleanrooms are designed to maintain extremely low levels of particulates, such as dust, airborne organisms and vaporized particles. Cleanrooms typically have a cleanliness level quantified by the number of particles per cubic meter at a predetermined molecule measure.

How cleanrooms control contamination

To control the concentration of airborne particles, the cleanroom is constructed and used in a manner that minimizes the introduction, generation and retention of particles inside the room, and that controls for other relevant parameters — temperature, humidity and pressure — as necessary.
